“Amainaa… (=You are naive.)”
(A Good Example of “Naivety”)
My husband and I had a big argument on parenting. We have 13-year-old and 11-year-old boys. As you could easily imagine, our 13-year-old always plays a computer game of any kind. He loves “killing games” with guns and other firearms. My hubby is very concerned about his son’s attitude, but recently he learned that there was a teenage sniper who killed whomever he didn’t like and his concern about his 13-year-old got to the climax. He screamed at me, saying, “Sooner or later, he will go and kill someone he hates. He’s got an anger issue. He doesn’t talk to me anymore. I know what he is up to…. blah….blah….blah….!” This big daddy cannot trust his son just because he is a teenager!
I have told him (for millions of times!!) that I trust my son. I told him that he needs trust from his parents and that he doesn’t trust him and always criticizes him. I explained to him, saying, “Your distrust and constant criticisms on your son’s behavior alienates him from you. That’s that! No more!”
My husband became frustrated so much that he said to me cynically, “You are naive…” Of course, I hung up on him. He is so freakish when he has hard time getting his message through to others, including me! That’s OK with me. Really. That’s him. I cannot control this man. But all of sudden, a good idea came up to me – a topic for my “Monday’s Blog.”

If you ever have learned Japanese language before, you know what “amai” means, don’t you? Yes, “amai” means “sweet.” However, it means “(being) naive.” So my husband technically blamed me and mocked me by saying, “You are naive in terms of parenting a teenager.” You got what I meant? Hope you can understand his “verbal abuse.”

Today’s Lesson – NEVER SAY, “AMAINAA (KIMI-WA/ANATA-WA)” to any Japanese individual. That phrase means, “You are immature and imperfect (while I am mature and perfect). Grow up (to be a great man like me)!” Nobody will make friends with you. Guaranteed!
